Migration reforms will help attract the right talent

PeopleIN supports the Albanese Government's comprehensive review of Australia's migration system announced yesterday. We believe many of the proposed reforms are necessary to ensure that Australia remains a competitive and attractive destination for highly skilled migrants.
We welcome the Government's commitment to developing a clear migration strategy to guide Australia over the coming decades, and to redefine how Australia determines the size and composition of the migration program. We also support the Government's focus on better targeting permanent skilled visas to maximise economic outcomes and remain internationally competitive. As one of the most diverse talent businesses in Australia, we believe we’re in a good position to support government to identify skills gaps and leverage our relationship with our TAFE partners to ensure critical gaps are being addressed for the future.
As one of the largest employers of skilled migrants in Australia, we welcome the announcement that all skilled temporary workers will have a pathway to permanent residency by the end of 2023. This decision recognises the valuable contributions that temporary skilled workers bring to our economy, communities, and industries.
PeopleIN fully supports the Government's proposal to create a faster and simpler pathway for international students to stay in the country after graduation. The strengthening of international student outcomes and transitions are essential steps in creating a more effective and efficient migration system.
And above all, we stand firmly in support of efforts to address any worker exploitation.
We are committed to working with the Government and other stakeholders to ensure that these directions for reforms are implemented effectively. We believe that a reformed migration system will benefit Australia's economy and society, and we look forward to playing our part in this important national effort.
