The Opportunity
PeopleIN is seeking a Senior WHS Advisor to join our Northern Region Team. This role will work in the wider PeopleIN safety team focusing on Trades & Labour Industries including brands like AWX and Mobilise. Based in Townsville, this role has responsibility for our operations in areas including Mt Isa, Cairns, Townsville and down to Rockhampton (and other areas as required).
About the role
Reporting to the Group Head of Safety & Wellbeing, the Senior WHS Advisor – Northern Region is responsible for the operational delivery of work health and safety practices. Ensuring compliance with work health and safety legislation, and assistance with the development of best practice WHS systems to deliver a safe workplace for all internal staff and on-hire workers.
- Work across various client sites and industries including Mining, Civil, Warehousing, Manufacturing, Trades and Labour.
- Support the delivering of the ISO45001 certified Safety Management Plan.
- Assist with the development and implementation of the Group WHS Management System.
- Assist with emergency management activities with the local teams, and support the risk management, governance, and compliance strategies with the Head of WHS.
- Working collaboratively with the Return to Work Team.
- Provide advice and guidance in investigations into safety matters (including workplace incidents) and report findings to the relevant supervisors and/or Managers.
- Conduct incident investigations, determine root causes, to recommend and implement appropriate corrective actions and controls.
- Contribute and facilitate findings within the corrective action register
- Collate and analyse incident data and trends.
- Assist with supporting the Group Head of Safety & Wellbeing with external audits and ISO45001 accreditation.
- Drive the transition from Lag Indicator to Lead Indicators reporting of safety statistics

- Formal qualification in Health and Safety.
- Exposure to the mining industry, whether direct or via contracting services
- Experience in ISO45001 certified WHSMS
- Experience in civil infrastructure maintenance (especially water supply)
- Ability to travel very regularly to client sites and other offices including Mt Isa.
- Highly proficient in the use of technology; Microsoft suite of products, and online injury management software.
- Knowledge of or ability to interpret health & safety legislation and regulations.
- Broad general experience across a range of health and safety activities, including workplace auditing and development of corrective actions.
- Knowledge and understanding of health and safety practices and procedures including the promotion of health and safety culture.
- Ability to achieve required results by engaging and influencing managers, staff and clients.
